Easter Island
The Origin of Easter Island is volcanic recent (Plio-Pleistocene) and its structure is dominated by three large volcanoes, Maunga Terevaka (511 m), Poike (370 m) and Rano Kao (400 meters) and about 70 smaller crater of a parasitic kind which include Rano Raraku, the Puna Pau, Maunga Orito and Rano Aroi. The soils of the island is of volcanic origin and have slight undulations with high cliffs in some of the edges to the sea, especially on the margins of the Rano Kao and Poike. The island has no permanent channels of water, some streams have only sporadic runoff depending on the abundance and torrential rainfall. There are three bodies in the crater lake of Rano Aroi Rano Kao and Rano Raraku. However, it has a good availability of groundwater. The park has altitudes ranging from 0 to 511 meters. at the summit of the volcano Maunga Terevaka.
The climate is typically maritime subtropical characteristics, with an average relative humidity of 77%. Presents rain throughout the year with 1,140 mm. an annual average of the month being the wettest May and September the driest. The average annual temperature is 20.6 º C. The maximum average temperatures (23.3 º C) occur in March and the minimum average temperatures (17.9 º C) occur during administration of the Park is agosto.La the National Forestry Corporation, CONAF, and are in the town of Hanga Roa Otai Mataveri sector. There are also three nurseries in Orongo, Rano Raraku and Anakena.
There is an interesting interpretation trail about 40 minutes duration at the ceremonial village of Orongo in the Rano Kao, and two hiking trails. The first in the Rano Raraku, where you can see the quarry where the Moai were made and many of these statues that were already completed to their final destination, and the other Anakena, a beautiful journey from the coast of the island.

Recreational activities might be undertaken on the island are hikes, excursions, visits to key cultural resources, swimming and beach activities, surface and underwater fishing, diving observation, horseback riding (horse rental in Hanga Roa) But without doubt the main attraction of Easter Island as are its monumental statues or moai that have given universal renown.
